Winter Wedding

From Autumn to Winter...

We’re lucky enough to be surrounded by rolling countryside on the Montgomeryshire / Shropshire border and therefore can experience the seasons quite intensely!

We love spring for the promise of the year to come, summer for the exuberance and celebrations that arise, autumn for the rich colours and soon we’ll be moving into winter…

The quiet transition from autumn to winter is not a bad time at all. For many winter can be a testing time but we love and appreciate when nature is stripped down to its bare bones, people’s busy lives slow down and there is time to contemplate and reflect on the months that have already sped past.

It’s true the wedding industry slows down between November – March, but couples that choose this magical time to get married are really in for a treat! Yes there may be rain, but there might be snow…yes it gets dark early, but just think of the abundance of candles and twinkling lights!

There could be luscious foliage, eating dinner by candlelight, layers of beautiful fabrics (wedding dresses with sleeves…yes please!), fire pits, roaring open fires, fairy lights, sparklers, mulled wine, cosy blankets, jewel tones and seasonal foods (a cheese board with port anyone?)

These are all features we LOVE in a wedding and can make winter weddings really quite magical!

At Garthmyl Hall, as well as transitioning from autumn to winter, we are now moving from peak wedding season to peak shooting season. Another large part of the Hall's offering is that shooting groups can exclusively book Garthmyl Hall along with 10 double en-suite bedrooms and stay on site with their friends, while shooting at a nearby estate for a few days between October - February.

Guests are welcome to make use of the cosy Sitting Room with open fire, the Gentleman’s Bar with an extensive selection of wine, beers and spirits, as well as reconvening each evening in our intimate Dining Room with a delicious three course meal courtesy of Tallulah’s Catering.

We hosted our first shooting event last week which turned out to be a great success, and have many more groups to come…no rest for the wicked this winter!

Sometimes, it feels like the only good thing about winter is that it eventually ends and is followed by spring but we will be looking back over 2019 and remembering what an amazing year it has been, as well as working hard to put some exciting plans in place for 2020…watch this space!
