Wedding Trends - What's hot for 2018
As we reflect on the beautiful details and effortless style our couples brought into the Hall last year, we look eagerly ahead to the wedding trends we think will be making an appearance in 2018. Hitched.com have recently published their What's hot for 2018 blog on what trends they think will emerge this year and it's safe to say we're pretty pleased to see what they have to say!
The overriding insight is that “2018 is going to be all about natural light and stripping things back to basics – we are moving towards a minimalistic look where natural light and polished details are key.”
Floral decor has us green with envy
“Greenery might have been Pantone’s colour of the year in 2017, but the trend is going nowhere as far as we’re concerned. When it comes to floral décor, foliage-only requests have become increasingly popular – tablescapes and hanging hoops are now being transformed into woodland wonders with the use of a little leaf.” Hitched.com
Another detail on the catwalks was the presence of Gypsophila, otherwise known as baby’s breath. Subtle, natural and very cost effective - (you definitely get your money's worth), it works perfectly all year round!
We certainly saw this greenery trend in all its amazing glory in the second half of last year. It looked incredible in our Marquee and Summer House so we are very pleased to see that it is here to stay for another year!!
Metallics and geometric shapes
Using metallic colours such as rose gold and copper throughout floral arrangents, stationery, cakes and dresses has become a real trend and one that doesn't seem to be going anywhere, set to be a firm theme running through the whole of 2018!
It is a great to way to add an industrial edge to a wedding, especially if your venue is far from industrial!! Just check out the amazing photos below by Agnes Black taken in our Summer House. (Full blog and credits can be found on Love My Dress). The use of the copper clothes hanger as a minimilst back drop, the geometric metallic shapes on the table, the copper cutlery, and the beautiful metallic calligraphy, all work together beautifully!
Boho style wedding dresses
Bohemian style wedding dresses are going to be all the rage for brides getting married in 2018. Perfect for those brides that want to break free from tradition and prefer floaty, elegant and unique dresses.
Splashes of colour on wedding dresses is also going to be hot this year!

Make-up - make-under
According to hitched.com “the dewy, fresh-faced look was definitely out in full force and a lot of the models wore a bright red-lip to bring their makeup to life." “Minimal face make-up and really healthy, glowing skin was definitely the ‘in thing’ on all of the catwalks.”
Hairstyles are also having the made-under treatment, with brides opting for natural, hair down styles. We have certianly seen a lot of this at Garthmyl Hall and are sure we will be seeing a lot more of it this year - we LOVE the natural look! For those brides who have a lot of detail on the back of the dress, edgy top knots are also shaping up to be 'in' this year!
So to sum up....
Natural, green, minimalist and metallic are words we are certain to hear from our beautiful brides-to-be this year!
