So Valentine's Day is nearly here...
As you might have guessed, we love Valentine’s Day here at Garthmyl Hall and it is definitely one of our favourite holidays! It is a real festival of romance that celebrates love and relationships, but with all of the hype and heavy commercialisation it is easy to forget its origins – it actually started off as a religious celebration. The Roman emperor Claudius who had banned marriage in order to help his soldiers focus beheaded St.Valentine for his persistence in continuing to marry couples in secret. While in prison he developed feelings for his jailer’s blind daughter and legend says that his love for her was so great that he healed her sight. This is the origin of the phrase, “From your Valentine,” as St. Valentine signed a letter to her this way before his execution.
Thankfully these days Valentine’s Day is a little less brutal, usually celebrated by giving gifts such as chocolates or roses, or even popping the question (our favourite!)
If however you are still looking for a way to celebrate this year but are after something a bit different, then we can be of help. Our Fine Dining Event on Saturday 18th February is the perfect opportunity to treat the person you love by indulging in a sumptuous 5-course tasting menu, canapés, cocktails and jazz on arrival and dancing until the early hours. You can even make the evening more romantic by staying over in one of our luxury en-suite bedrooms. Contact Julia Pugh on 07716 763567 or Julia@garthmylhall.co.uk to book your tickets.
